Daddy and Mommy
They did one correct thing
They laughed with one another
Which confused me and my brother
They loved one another
That’s one correct thing
Christmas in the duplex
Christmas in the house
Mom got a silver tree
Dad, quiet as a mouse
Put together 5 bicycles
For 5 awestruck kids
One Houston Christmas
That’s what Mom and Dad did
One correct thing
Remembered for a while
Lives forever in the hearts of your child
Mom made homemade rolls
Mom was a power walker
Dad was a scientist
And an electrical genius
He bought stock in Xerox
When Xerox was a pup
Dad bought a business, a boat, and Mom a Benz
By the time Xerox grew up
So many correct things
Mom and Dad did
They did many wrong things
But what I think of
All the one correct things
That fills my soul completely with love.
They reclaimed and healed their own childhoods by raising, laughing with, and loving us.
