Seattle, WA – One year ago and today

It is October 2009 – one year since I left Dubai on my way back to America, back to Seattle…

My granddaughter was on her way and I planned to meet her in Jet City USA. On today’s date in 2008 – President Barack Obama had just been elected for a month and the plans for his historic inauguration were being worked out while plans for President Bush’s exit were being handled as well. What an exciting time for my family and for my nation!! I can not believe this year has gone by so quickly!

What a year it has been…the death of Senator Ted Kennedy, the death of Michael Jackson (I remain in shock, and started smoking that day), the wedding of Jay-Z and Beyonce (some said it would never happen-HA!) and the most compelling shocker for the nation – the election of an African American Male – Barack H. Obama.

I remember traveling and listening to the buzz as I made my plans to return to my country of origin. Overseas there was excitement and positive words, smiles and enthusiasm. When I hit American airspace there was trepidation, negativity, fear and hatred displayed, voiced and discussed. This is the land of my fathers… the land where Dr. King, Jr. marched among others and countless AMERICANS worked, died, fought, weeped and hoped for freedom and a chance for a family and a home of their own only to be tormented and oppressed by their fellow countryman…

Yes well, my granddaughter was born healthy and as intelligent as all get out! My sons are so proud and happy – one to be a fabulously strong and capable Daddy and one to be an understanding, patient, and kind Uncle. My daughter in law is happy, healthy, beautiful, and a terrific Mom… What more do I need in this world than to take care of myself and love all of them a smidge of how much they love me?

Life goes on – Life goes on – Negativity be damned!!

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving! Yum! 😀

  1. Power on, damn the torpedos—positive good vibrations win the race–in the words of a wise friend: “Do you…”
