One Moment with Heaven
The morning fog off Lake Washington was just beginning to lift, dissolving into soft sunlight over the quiet shoreline of Medina.

Heaven stood on her wide cedar deck, feeling the cool morning air against her face while the damp earth beneath the steps anchored her completely. As a native Houstonian, her mind naturally floated into the vast, quiet expanse of the water—feeling the subtle shifts in the lake’s tides and the unspoken mood of the morning, gratitude. But the aromas on the breeze pulled her back down to what was real: the rich smell of Douglas fir, the solid weight of stone pathways, and the comforting warmth of a fresh mug of black tea with organic honey held in both small feminine palms.
Inside, the home was a sanctuary she had built with deliberate, quiet care. The rooms were spacious yet deeply welcoming—floored in reclaimed oak, filled with clean natural light, and furnished with understated elegance. Every piece, from the plush wool rugs to the hand-carved wooden tables, had been custom gifts from renowned artists from around the world. Many of these works were loaned to the Bellevue Art Museum during Black History Month each year. All pieces were chosen to ground the vast, creative energy that constantly coursed through Heaven’s thoughts and feelings.

A soft nudging at her knee brought a smile to her lips. Looking down, she met the bright, alert eyes of Beatriece, her medium-sized charcoal dog. Beatriece possessed an almost uncanny intelligence. With a soft woof, she padded toward the front entry, picking up the morning mail before turning to wait patiently by the oval double doors that augmented the mud room… Heaven’s grace and goodwill was a ward for the protection and creativity for the county named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Always a step ahead, aren’t you?” she murmured, Beatriece leaned into Heaven’s aura, her steady, loyal presence serving as Gabriel serves before the thrown of Almighty God, daily and completely.

Stepping out into the garden, the lake was quiet and calm with a gentle, cool breeze caressing the homes all around Heaven. Everything around her was embraced by a quiet, calm, stable, safe decency. Heaven is the sanctuary that was ordained to reside in her community. She was the salt of the earth for her region. Heaven was the light on the hill in this territory. She kept her flavor and her community did not extinguish her. They protected her and experienced Heaven on Earth. Security, Peace and the Presence of Almighty God. Because her community showed love for themselves, they easily adored her. In adoring her, they fulfilled the greatest two commandments; love one another that you see everyday thus loving Almighty God with your whole heart, mind and spirit.
It wasn’t difficult at all. It was easy… Thus the county was filled with security was felt in the air and people moved by respect and adoration. There was no fear even in the face of change and hardships because Heaven remained with them. HEr peace gave them all peace.

Beatriece sat beside Heaven ever vigilant and strong, her attention focused on Heaven and her surroundings.
As Heaven gazed upon Lake Washington, the heavens above spread themselves out in royal blue and no clouds. The day was perfectly aligned. Storms would come, and issues would arrive and Heaven would observe in silence as love rules the day and night and all problems are resolved in peace and security for everyone. Selah.
