They were unknown in their large metropolitan city as Ariel and Joshua, a boisterously quiet couple who kept mostly to themselves now. They began as two lost souls on the garbage pile of the unwanted. She showed him how to get high and he liked it. She had always been high and did not know any other way to live. They had been together now for so long that people stopped trying to guess their ages or what they were really about. She deformed him and he disfigured her. Two, once young beautiful people now disfigured, malformed…ugly inside and out. Their eyes glowed strangely in lamplight, and their laughter carried an echo that didn’t sound entirely human. It was hollow and usually fake. Neither one knew joy, happiness, nor satisfaction.
What no one knew was that Ariel and Joshua shared a secret older than their bloodlines. Two different lines from different parts of the country yet beholden to the ancient evil.
The Pact
In their youth, they had stumbled upon one another for the same reason — not intentionally, but through degradation. They were both kicked out of their homes for not respecting their mothers. They were evil, selfish, seekers of sensation and deceit. They loved destroying their own families, their siblings, their mothers, it didn’t matter. The most important factor is they hated themselves. They hated being alive but did not have the courage to end it all once and for all. Yet the urge to destroy was always there compelling them to do evil to others. They did not know any peace until the deeds were done. Then the nausea would engulf them. Not a metaphorical door. A real one would open…
The trees were set on fire with an addictive never used before on top on potent spirts with Lucifer in the name…The smoke furled filling the room and thinning the veil between flesh and spirit. Lust took them and Ariel’s menstrual flow covered them as they sprawled across the white leather couch. As they climaxed together two ancient evil entities slipped inside them both entwining their fates forever. The demons were not monstrous in form; they were things of hunger, longing, and fire. They craved connection but had no bodies of their own. The flesh. The ecstasy of being inside again of having a home, young ones.

A Lifetime of Shared Fire
Whenever the couple sought closeness — holding each other, breathing together, sinking into the warmth of their bond — the demons stirred. The smoke they used was not for pleasure anymore; it was the key to compliance, a way to let the spirits rise within them and meet through borrowed flesh. The demons enjoyed all the debauchery of the flesh through the bodies of Joshua and Ariel. They were immersed in sexual immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, rivalries, dissensions, envy, drunkenness, and orgies. They took turns going to prison and indulging even there in debauchery of every kind.
Ariel and Joshua felt the presence like a second heartbeat, a heat behind their ribs, a whisper in their bones. A prompting they could not resist and under the influence usually they had no mental capacity to even try. They resisted the Jesus and His covering. They resisted all salvation and compelled souls to join them in the pursuit of hell on earth. Since God Almighty would not speak to them they would make sure He would never mercifully want to. They lived long, unnaturally long, because the demons sustained them. Their bodies were tatooed. Their limbs youthful forms became grotesque. They aged prematurely. Their minds rotted in their heads. They despised one another but could not leave one another. They were shackled to each other betrayed by their own weak, faithless, putrid souls. The human spirits within were nothing more than the small, wretched thing that remained of Tom Riddle only worse. An existence that wasn’t a life at all.
The true Ariel and Joshua were cowards and completely alone in a void where no prayers could reach them.
The Final Night
After decades — perhaps a century, though no one could say for sure — their bodies finally failed. The demons grew restless, pacing inside their hosts like caged fire. Ariel and Joshua knew the end was near, and they accepted it with the same quiet devotion they had never shown each other every day of their strange, drugged, and booze filled life. They longed for the Grim Reaper as they never longed for Jesus Christ.
On their last night, they prepared the ritual one final time; the devil’s liquor with belladonna and contaminated trees… Not to summon the spirits — but to expel them.
They sat together, hands intertwined, smoke curling around them like a shroud. Their breaths slowed. Their hearts synchronized. The demons pressed against the edges of their dying flesh, desperate to escape.
And when Ariel exhaled her final breath, when Joshua’s pulse flickered out—
They combusted.
Not violently, but in a burst of shimmering embers, as if their bodies had become lanterns breaking open. The demons tore free in twin spirals of flame, rising into the dusky room like white firebirds released from cages.
The police department found only ash. Two piles, side by side, yet the furniture they lay upon was not singed at all.
The Legacy
Some nights, the homeless freak out swearing that they were molested by ghosts. Tourists go missing in the city and are never heard from again. Their cell phones, luggage, rental cars all left behind. There is never any CCTV footage or ring camera videos. Long time residents of the city know about Ariel and Joshua but no one speaks their names. Law enforcement ask questions, file reports and never think of the incidents again. Detectives interview family, friends, and strangers. They review reports and physical evidence with gloves on the hands and face masks to protect them from any contaminants. They add new information if any should materialize then file the case in “Unsolved” status.
Ariel and Joshua were gone, but the entities that harnessed them and rode them into the fire still lurk about seeking for weak souls that they might possess them and drive into hell.
