Somebody is Home: Poem by Coletha Albert

James came over to reach out to a daughter

Somebody is home and he’s a father

James she doesn’t want to talk to you

He was told by the mother

“I don’t want him in the house…”

Said the mother

“Get off my porch!”

Shouted the mother

James was breaking down the door

Every one was home

Including Allison

James wouldn’t go away

The lights were on

Three shots later

Aged 22

James earthly run was through

The lights were on

Everyone was home

Violence doesn’t work

When somebody is home

Bullying doesn’t work

When the lights are on

You will always get

What James got

When the elevator goes to the top.

IF you dare think of doing something wrong

Let me warn you:

Somebody is home.

Moral of this poem: Never contact your EX. Leave the past firmly in the past. Stay away from people who keep in touch with their ex (s).

If you are in a crises or know someone who is be proactive – call someone now:

You can call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or text the Crisis Text Line 24/7 to get free, confidential support from a trained counselor. They’ll listen to whatever’s on your mind and help you explore strategies to find some relief.

Here’s how to get in touch in the U.S.:

Note: To all Black, native, indigenous Texans and the Ancestors: Happy Juneteenth. I love, respect, admire, and care for you. I thank you.

Life is not about how well you can suffer for long periods of time.

Life is about how determined you are to fight for an existence where you refuse to.

  1. My mother was abuse and in the old days. State of Michigan gave her a safe place to live, food and distance. We must protect the women escaping deadly situation. Powerful and worthwhile thoughts shared.
