Whitney Houston: I Want To Dance With Somebody

Netflix has done it again!

Ya’ll I been running all this month of April. Going, going, going! My schedule runs me for sure. The other night I got up from my bed to pray for Jamie Foxx. The memories of witnessing his life performance in Seattle, Washington – Fabulous!

Today, was the first day I did not have a conference from Seoul, South Korea…Soon as I logged into my Netflix what do I see?

Now, a part of me did hesitate, yet my index finger pressed “Play”. I have been on a roller coaster ride of memories and emotions ever since. To see Whitney Houston truly happy made me joyful. Watching Cissy Houston direct Merv Griffin’s band behind the curtain as Whitney sang, “Home”…I cried and thanked God that Cissy was there AND took charge.

Everyone needs a Mom like that. A mother who fakes larengitis so you can sing when Clive Davis is in the audience. Then steps in to make sure your music is right! Her Daddy, John, he was a drill sergeant for sure for his Princesses good and not her bad. That’s a blessing.

Where it all went bad was when the Black community would not accept her. It hurt her feelings and I don’t think she ever got over it.

Bobby was positively aggressive for Whitney regarding the media and I think that was the first instance of this.

From this point, Whitney was just bombarded with well, everything… honestly, her with Bobby was difficult for me to watch. I remember all these situations when they were actually reported. I never thought Bobby was the one for her, but it was her life. She needed protection. She thought Bobby could do that but he was so young.

That car situation in the middle of the freeway was so “Wendy Williams and Kevin Hunter” for me. Poor Whitney, out of the frying pan and into the fire. After that, every thing just went wrong, wrong, wrong.

Before Bobby, I remember:

  1. She was a cover model
  2. She was friends with Michael Jackson
  3. She dated Eddie Murphy
  4. She lost a child or two
  5. She was expected to marry an Anglo Saxon
  6. We didn’t know anything about drugs
  7. We knew she had been attacked a few times
  8. She was lonely – A LOT
  9. Then there was Bobby Brown

I guess it was all about the music business. Growing up. Fake friends, supporting her whole family financially. She had to perform perfectly no matter what. Did you know Bobby lost a couple of properties and went to jail REPEATEDLY. Whitney was high repeatedly…do you know that when you are high and drunk people can use your body however they want? Did you know that?

Did you know that guys used to get girls drunk and put drugs in their drinks so they could abuse the girl without her fighting back against what he was doing? That’s why we were told to drive yourself to dates. Don’t let the man know where you live. Have a friend call during the date to double check on you. Be home by 10 pm and let all your people know you are home safely.

How do you safeguard yourself when you are a Whitney Houston? Can you truly trust anyone? I imagine you would have to be in prayer all day everyday….

What I wish…I wish that after she married Bobby she would have retired. She had enough money and fame. She was over it all. Bobby should have encouraged her to retire and be Mrs. Bobby Brown. She might still be here…Maybe…

The Daddy’s Girl who became The Whitney Elizabeth Houston:

You gotta know when to hold them. Know when to fold them. Know when to walk away and know when to run.

The Gambler, by Kenny Rogers

I think Whitney Houston lived several personalities and lost herself. God bless her soul.

She was so amazing. She was so gifted. She couldn’t stop though because of all the people in her family and her friends who all needed, needed, needed her…to keep on singing.

It’s not right, it’s not okay, but life goes on anyway. The world is still spinning. So, those of us who keep waking up, we stay sober, we keep our faith, and we keep going.

There is a lesson for the world in Whitney Houston’s life…Most of the time I am too sad about how she left here to recall, but I think it’s about making right choices and when to retire.

The Heart of the Matter

I got the call today, I didn’t wanna hear
But I knew that it would come
An old true friend of ours was talkin’ on the phone
She said you found someone
And I thought of all the bad luck
And the struggles we went through
And how I lost me and you lost you
What are these voices outside love’s open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more?

I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I’m learning again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

These times are so uncertain
There’s a yearning undefined
… People filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age
The trust and self-assurance that can lead to happiness
They’re the very things we kill, I guess
Pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us
Doesn’t keep me warm

I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you, Baby
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I figured out, I have to learn again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But everything changes
And my friends seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

The Heart of the Matter

There are people in your life who’ve come and gone
They let you down and hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; life goes on
You keep carrin’ that anger, it’ll eat you inside

I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
Because the flesh will get weak
And the ashes will scatter
So I’m thinkin’ about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

This movie as very difficult to watch at many points. Life is hard for us all. No matter how we long for paradise and an easy road, we all have challenges. Never throw away grace. Through it all we have to stay grounded and with Google photos we should never forget who we used to be, who we are, and who will be by Elohim.
