The Denial: Poem by Coletha Albert

Denial ain’t a river in Egypt

Denial is what I do

To stay out of jail

Else I’d come see about you

I deny who I am

I pretend I don’t know me

Cause the real me

I don’t want to see

The real me

Ain’t no joke

She wants all the smoke

She has no fear inside

She needs no crew to ride

All the dirt you’ve done

All along you had the one

To strike and make wrong right

But I don’t want that fight

You’re not worth my freedom

You’re not worth my time

You’re not worth my dignity

You’re not worth my mind

I chose the high road

Long, long ago

You can never have my goat

Control me through my anger?

You are denied

Control me by my emotions?

You are denied

Control me by my pride?

You are denied

Control me by my pain?

You are denied

You are deleted from my life

You are denied from my life

You are blocked from my life

You are erased from my life

The Nile is a river in Egypt

That’s how far you’re out my life

My reward is integrity

Thanks to the denial

My reward is peace

Thanks to the denial

My reward is clarity

Thanks to the denial

My reward is prosperity

Thanks to the denial

All the times you lied on me

I deny you of my company

All the times you betrayed me

I deny you of my company

All the times you stole from me

I deny you of my company

All the times you sold me

I deny you of my company

I would still suffer you now

Except for The Denial.

The Nile ;-D
