A Poem by Coletha Albert: Justice Called Me

Last night Justice called me

I answered the phone

A short call no misery

Just a check-in from home

They wanted to know about you

They wanted to know about you

They had your account to reconcile

They called me cause you’re my child

For centuries I have lobbied for you

I said they’re a child and don’t know what they do

I begged, pleaded, cried for you

When Justice called last night

I didn’t intercede for you

Four hundred years ago

I lobbied for you

Three hundred years ago

I begged for mercy for you

Two hundred years ago

I fought and tried to learn you

One hundred years ago

I asked for mercy for you

Last night when Justice called

I had no intercession for you

The rubber has met the road

I don’t feel sorry for you

Honestly, I shed a tear for you

Cause Justice called last night

I know there’s no more time for you

The winds of change are blowing through

You’ve been weighed in the scales

And they are against you

Your heart is too light

Your soul is too light

Your liver is yellow

Your kidneys are hollow

Everything you’ve done

Means it’s over for you

You can never survive

What to others everyday you do

There are no prayers to say

Mercy is not on her way

She has turned her back on you

Do you feel that?

That’s the Justice ruling against you

Because I no longer intercede for you

You know EXACTLY what you do

There is no repentance for you.

β€œThen Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. ‘ And they cast lots to divide his clothing…”

(Luke 23:34)

Jesus separates the sheep on his right; the goats on his left (Matthew 25:32, 33). There is but one judgment day (Revelation 11:18). Both the saved and lost will be judged (Romans 14:10 and 2 Corinthians 5:10). Our works both good and bad will be judged (Ecclesiastes 12:14, 2 Corinthians 5:10)

You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
