Deanna Janes posted this article under film, tv and theatre this week.

On the top of her list is 25th Hour released in 2002. I never saw this movie. I stopped watching Spike Lee joints a decade ago and I can’t recall why. His movie’s were very gritty and I lost interest you know “Whatever things are of good report… think on these things…” Anyway, Deanna thinks this movie is one of Spike Lee’s best films because it was the first film to incorporate the events of 9/11 into its narrative. Spike Lee is from New York so that wasn’t a huge jump for him. 9/11 must have been a huge personal disaster for him and all native New Yorkers.

Next is Amelie released in 2001 – I loved this movie because it is an independent film type movie. If you haven’t seen it you should check it out.

Next is Brokeback Mountain released in 2005 – it’s a movie about temptation, regret, and general awkwardness. Deanna describes it as a meditative drama and calls the film an epic love story. If that’s love I will have to pass. In my estimation love brings peace and security. Deanna description of “drama” is the antithesis of love. Did you see it? Do you agree with Deanna?

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon released in 2000 is next. I find martial arts movies are for the guys and don’t interest me at all. So, there’s my viewpoint on that. It is what it is…

Dreamgirls released in 2006 is next…I saw it and it had it’s moments. My favorite moments included everyone except Beyonce’ – Beyonce’ bit seemed to be more about her Dad, Mathew Knowles, moreso than the actual character. Sigh… Deanna says the this film and others like it “are an escape”…Do you agree? I wonder what Jenifer Lewis felt about the file. I wonder if she was a Consultant. If she wasn’t she should have been. Jenifer Lewis is an ICON and she was the artist who work
