The Watcher

When the first episode began, I was thrilled. The house, the neighborhood, the old growth trees, the bluegrass of the lawn was very appealing to me. I admit it, I was drawn to the scenery wondering what this story would be about.

I am half way through the first episode and I am a bit creeped out. Should you do a deep dive into research before you buy a home? Should you also do case studies on all your neighbors to find out their backgrounds, what they do and how long they have been in the community? Should you research the police department to find out who the officers are and how long they have been on the force? Should you install security before you ever move your furniture in?

As for your mail; should you have a post office box or require your mail to be delivered to a mailbox on the porch instead of on the street?

When I was growing up security was my Dad’s department. After he passed my Mom installed burglar bars. Our home went from being classy and charming to a jail cell. The house was haunted, is still haunted. There are certain people in the family that the house loved and others it hated. The street itself had a personality, it did not like children. It was an old neighborhood full of seniors and as they passed away their kids sold to families with small children including us.

The house loved me. The house told me its secrets and told me my family’s secrets. It was amazing. I think back to all the hallways, bedrooms, the planter for herbs and spices to grow fresh and pungent – organic aromatherapy.

My Mom thought the house was hexed but she never said by whom or what or why. The Watcher reminds me of feelings I had about my Mom and the house all those years ago. Everyone has stories of being a child and being afraid that something was in the closet, under the bed, or peering at them from the hallway… This is what makes Ryan Murphy a genius.

He taps into all those “things that go bump in the night”; then he kicked it up 700 notches. Visions, hallucinations, delusions and utter terror… I am scared just watching this series honestly… I don’t know how this series will end but I adored American Horror Story so I am sure I will love this series too.

If you haven’t checked out “The Watcher” you should… remember Halloween approaches so brace yourself Gertie!
