Poem by Coletha Albert: Quitology

You showed me and told me

You don’t want me in your life

So I applied Quitology

You lied on me

You tried me

I applied Quitology

I called you

You changed your number

I applied Quitology

I tried to put money on your books

I found that you had taken me off your visitors list

I applied Quitology

I called you and called you

Then saw that you never called me

I applied Quitology

I haven’t seen you in years

You call me through meth addicted tears

I applied Quitology

You have a life insurance policy on me

You pray daily for Death to visit me

I applied Quitology

You are a parasite

You don’t know love, like, or compassion

I applied Quitology

It’s my major in college

It’s my thesis for my doctorate

My address is changed

My name is changed

My life has changed

Cause I applied Quitology.

It was never about your loving, supporting or caring for me. It was about my caring for, supporting, and loving myself; i.e.

protecting myself from every soul like you.
