“Do you want him killed?” this was the question posed to Danny’s Daddy as he stood in the 9th ward of New Orleans. He was talking to a retired drug dealer about his son being murdered while trying to score crack.
“I don’t know what world I’m in…” said Danny’s Dad. I almost said yes. I promised God though, he said. I promised God that I would do this the right way. This was his fork in the road moment. We all have one. It’s where the rubber meets the road. This is the moment you find out if you are a man or a mouse. The moment where all checks come due.
Every man has that moment in time where the decision you make forever defines you. Dauphine and Forstall is an actual place. All those old sayings are defining a physical place and time. Every man knows who he is and who he ain’t. Whether he is a real man or a low-down dirty dog. He knows without any doubt. It does not matter the location be it Mauritius or on a boat in the middle of the Great Lakes.
What world am I in right now? One man, a father chose God – meanwhile, the actual murderer of his son Danny came forward as a witness. That’s right. The moment Jeffrey came forward as a witness – when he made that decision, he revealed just how much of a heel he was.
In the minutes before Danny died, he KNEW he made a choice. Danny made a choice to go score crack in the middle of the night in the 9th ward. Danny wasn’t going or coming from work. Danny wasn’t taking his wife to the hospital. Danny wasn’t coming home from a watchnight service at church. Before Danny left this world, he KNEW what kind of man he was. His parents thought about committing suicide. Suicide. Why didn’t they? They believe that if they commit suicide they won’t be reunited with Danny in the Afterlife.
What world am I in? Do crackheads go to heaven but those who commit suicide go straight to hell? What world am I in?
Shane was the one who admitted she knew who killed Danny. She was threatened. She was a mother of four. She was stalked. Shane was using crack herself, that’s why she was outside to see the murder in the first place. Dan Schneider was dragged into this “brave new world” because of his own son. The world he was in was his son’s world.
The world where drug dealers can kill drug users without consequence. Where secrets are taken to the grave. Where “being smart” can get you and your family killed. It’s the upside-down world, where right is wrong and doing wrong is right. It’s a world where you don’t want to be a part of. In that world sisters sell dope to their mother, brother, and cousins. It’s a world where filth and degradation is part and parcel of every atom in that world.
Shane cleaned her life up. “Today I become a real wife and a real mother.” “I been clean since then.” “Shane is our hero”, says Annie, Danny’s mother. After the trial, the grieving began. Danny Jason had been gone for over a year.

Whatever world we are living in – we are but a spec in it… all that matter is love. If someone loves you, trust them. Tell them you are in trouble. It takes humility, wisdom and courage. You can do it because you are loved. That’s the world you are living in. Be glad about that and love the ones who love you back.
