I respect Dr. Maya Angelou

“You see, we may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated. It may even be necessary to encounter the defeat, so that we can know who we are. So that we can see, oh, that happened, and I rose. I did get knocked down flat in front of the whole world, and I rose. I didn’t run away – I rose right where I’d been knocked down. And then that’s how you get to know yourself. You say, hmm, I can get up! I have enough of life in me to make somebody jealous enough to want to knock me down. I have so much courage in me that I have the effrontery, the incredible gall to stand up. That’s it. That’s how you get to know who you are.” — Maya Angelou

I have so much data in my brain.

There is so much I am trying to learn, understand, apply while still breathing, loving, living.

Dr. Maya Angelou reminds me of who I am. I take a deep breath and recenter myself.

Dr. Maya Angelou reminds me to take a break.

Dr. Maya Angelou reminds me that poetry is the reminder to live, to breathe, to imagine, to ponder.

Today, I am grateful for the Creator of the Spirit that was for a time, Dr. Maya Angelou.

I know that this is the month of Dr. King’s birthday, I know.

I am sitting here immersed in 5G and Edge Connectivity and I am totally disconnected from the “Black Community”, the “Black Experience”, the “Black Existence”… Isn’t that poetic? Or is not ironic because I was born Black?

Is the Black Community and other communities like covens and solo witches? Am I overthinking this because it’s Friday and I am tired? Do I just need a little nap? When I get this way…I think of poetry and literacy…which has nothing to do with per second data…right?

Am I “on the edge computing” right now with the world’s oldest computer – the brain, my brain?

I live in a beautiful place. I have a beautiful, necessary career. My future looks better now than it ever has. I love my home. I love my friends and acquaintances. I have come from a crazy place that I was forced to remain in for another 15 months due to the pandemic. Finally, I was able to leave a true horror show for paradise… I am in a great place, a divine place. I am admired, loved, supported. In my mind is poetry, poetry, poetry…

Still, when my physicality reminds me I am a human, I remember Dr. Maya Angelou. Her works comfort me. Her words center me. Her wonders are wondrous to me.

What poet grounds you? What poet reinvigorates you? What poet inspires you?

For me, it is Maya Angelou. God bless her soul today and every day…

If a human being and dare to be bigger than the situation they were born into…so can you.

I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.

If Yahweh is for you, HE is more than the whole world against you.
