Listen, I heard of Harry many decades ago. When I first graduated from High School and had my own apartment at Fonvilla Apartments I had peace and security. It was my garden of Eden. So many times I wish I could go back there and make different choices. Today, I am back in my garden and my mission is to see the serpent but don’t listen to them… Pray for me Dear Reader.
In my lovely one bedroom, I played Jazz music. It was a whole vibe. When I went on dates, I went to the club that was lit by candles, smelled clean with plush furnishings. The club was called Midtown and Jazz musicians came through and played Live. I would watch the musicians play and sip from a glass of house red wine. I thought I was grown and living the life of the adults I wanted to be. I wanted to be an adult who was free yet civilized, protected yet driven, successful yet demure, graceful yet a property owner.
One day the news came down that a jazz musician was dating a popular model: Jill Goodacre. She was considered a success in modeling. She was very quiet, serene. Now she was dating and likely to marry a musician who played jazz. I had no idea who it would be… It turned out to be Harry Connick Jr.

I was blown away by Harry! Normally, talented and beautiful Americans are never in the “spotlight”. Normally in America, they take someone who is flawed and feckless – dye them, diet them, train them, give them a fake background and family history. Then they work them into the ground, when they can’t keep going start feeding them drugs and drink. When they lose their minds and start telling what happened to them send in the IRS, have police officers arrest them on Trumped up charges. If they settle down, keep their mouths shut then they are allowed to move back with family and work a part time sales job quietly for the rest of their lives. That’s the American way. We make them, break them, then toss them away!
Divinely, all of America is NOT American. This is the beauty for our ashes. There is a quadrant of America whose hands are not sullied by slavery, murder, mayhem and manipulation. This is the America that is hidden from the monsters of America. The secret society, the boulee, the Illuminati are simply people living their lives without worrying about those who steal and kill while calling it life. These secret societies are liberated to follow their soul’s journey in this life. Their communities are guarded. There are some from the secret society who venture out into the world, get burned then retire back to their roots. Unfortunately, they leave children “out there”. Children who don’t “fit in”. Children whose temperament is kindness and intelligence. Usually, these tender ones are lost in the streets. The streets do not weep for them because they were never meant to be born. They were never meant to be here after all. My belief? I believe that IF you attain life, you savor it. Why would anyone agree with a whole culture who wants you to just die? Why would anyone value the opinions of people who despise your very existence? You should NOT. You have life today? Good. Now live your life from the inside out. Stay away from people who don’t accept you. Get your education. Move to another state. Move to another country. Befriend others who love life and enjoying laughing! Be happy! Never look back at those who hate you!
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Wa, close to you
Wa, close to you
Ha, close to you
La, close to you

While taking a course on Rhetoric at Harvard University, I had to write a speech on the The Meaning of Life. I did so and in my conclusion, I wrote:
“I asked Siri several times if Americans should take the Covid-19 vaccine yes, or no? She refused to answer me… I finally asked her again, “Hey Siri, what is the meaning of life?” Siri referred me to Nietzsche who felt that answers to philosophy’s ultimate questions do not exist; in fact, in asking such questions, we abandon the real purpose of life, which is to live creatively and boldly.”
I think Harry Connick Jr. has accomplished this brilliantly! How could you not be wild about Harry?!
When it comes to Harry’s latest project, Annie, again I cast my mind back to my childhood home at 5607 Heron Drive, Houston, Texas. In the living room my older step sister Darlene was doing her homework in Literature. She was reading the poem Little Orphant Annie. Now I must tell you my sister Darlene was brilliant and very creative. She read the poem in a cinematic way that I have never forgotten. I read the poem here as she did if you want to hear it. Now here I would like to refer you to Harry’s music “Alone with my Faith” cd – It is SOLD OUT. You can get the digital version though here: https://shopververecordsharryconnickjr.com/products/alone-with-my-faith-digital-album

Annie has been done and redone because it is a story that many of us relate to. I have never watched any version of the story. Why? Annie scares me. Annie fills a little girl with false hope? Annie encourages little girls to trust an old, crazy guy? Annie is dangerous? Is the “mean” foster Mom really mean or is she trying to protect Annie? In this life it is very hard to tell what is evil and what is good because it changes every day. Evil people can do nice, kind things and kind people can do monstrous things…nothing is absolute here on earth. Is it? You can not judge when it comes to humans. You can not judge even when it comes to yourself. Don’t believe me?
Let me call your attention to another movie, Crash. In this movie a self righteous rookie cop judged his partner who was tenured. In the end the rookie committed murder – something his awful partner never did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEJH0hEoHc4 The awful partner says to the rookie, “You think you know who you are, you have no idea.” This film was directed by Paul Haggis.
Annie Live! will air on NBC on December 2, 2021 and stars Celina Smith as Annie, Nicole Scherzinger as Grace Farrell, Taraji P. Henson as Miss Hannigan, Titus Burgess as Rooster with Megan Hillty as Lily.
This version will likely be outstanding! I really think NBC is on to something with these Live musicals! I loved The Wiz Live! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ2_Co4VsdA
