It is Friday night and unexpectedly Dave Chappelle’s Block Party is on…what are the odds? I have never set foot in New York not even in the airport. I have been to New Jersey. What I see more than anything is just how tired and rugged Brooklyn looks. I remember hearing how so many New Yorkers moved to California to get out of New York. It is disheartening. What makes a community, a city, a neighborhood? It’s the people.

There are so many moving parts to a successful and safe event. The community has to support that goal. Everyone from the participants to the neighbors have to really support the event. It’s a mindset, a heartset, a spiritset.

Dave mentions Thelonious Monk. I never listened to Thelonious Monk myself, perhaps I will check him out. Thelonious Sphere Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer. He had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including “‘Round Midnight”, “Blue Monk”, “Straight, No Chaser”, “Ruby, My Dear”, “In Walked Bud”, and “Well, You Needn’t”…

It rained. It stopped raining. It began raining again. It was September 18, 2004 on a Saturday. I can’t even remember 2004, much less September 2004. It seems like a million years ago in another galaxy…Life has always been difficult, a daily challenge with nano moments of perfection. It teaches you to just keep going. Do the best that you can. Dave is a person who is just full of stardust. He is a true starchild. He moves people with something that very few people have…what is it? I. Don’t. Know. but he has it in spades.

Can anyone other than Dave make a miracle like this happen? In 2021, I feel like people would be fainting, and weeping to be a part of something like this. We are in bad shape right now. 2016 – 2020 took a lot out of us. The persistent inhumanity has had to happen. The world had to know what oppression and persecution the poor of our world has had to endure. Now we all have had a taste of it. We KNOW that WE have to change if we are going to LIFT up our world. It’s is long past time to look after our poor, our children, AND our immigrants. Everyone that Elohim gives the breath of life to we have to respect and care for in addition to ourselves.
Turning our backs on the truth, kindness, and justice has destroyed our world. Some people waiting on Armageddon and it already happened. Armageddon happened at least twice to New York. Look that all the evil that is done on Wall Street.. Wall street is where Blacks were sold into slavery. SMH. Reapeth what thou Soweth to the 7,000th power.

I am watching the Block Party and I can’t help but smile. Kitten is just sitting and looking at me. This Block Party is magical and I am glad that it is airing again tonight on Netflix. This was shot in Bed Sty.

“What we have in common is our audience does NOT look like us.” – Quest Love of The Roots

Dave would come out from time to time and tell jokes that were original and funny; some of them were just corny but I laughed anyway…. The Fugees came out to close the show even though Lauren Hill could not clear any of her songs from The Miseducation of Lauren Hill. I think that’s CBS Records…slavery is still in effect fro Black artists. It’s worse than any of us can imagine. Everything is though…right?
I hear you saying that Lauren wasn’t late? She was on time looking like she was going to church. Very nice! I really don’t like the men of the Fugees. I really do not but the crowd was happy to see them. I am happy to see Lauren Hill and that she is okay and happy. Protect Ms. Lauren Hill.

I can still feel the love from September 18, 2004 when Ms. Lauren was blessing the stage. We need love today. Love for ourselves and each other. We need to stop hurting one another. It begins with us. When we stop loving, it is OVER. What about you? If you are like me you want reciprocity. I want you to love me like I love you. I want you to fight for me like I fight for you. I want you to be honest with me like I am honest with me. For so long mothers give everything and their children take and take giving nothing back. For so long fathers give everything and their companies take and take and giving nothing back. We are tired. I am tired. My soul is weary.

I bless Dave Chappelle. There is no one like him. When I see him it’s like he is just in the moment and a fan of everything that is happening. How does he sleep at night? Dave even sang the Blues… for real! As the credits roll I am smiling now…but when Lauren Hill sang the intro to “Killing Me Softly” I was weeping. No lies. If you can handle it – I recommend you watch David Chappelle’s Block Party.
Dave is on tour or about to go on tour, if you have the opportunity go see his show. I know you won’t regret it. I remember when Dave came to Seattle. I was sitting on Ticketmaster.com waiting for the tickets to go on sale to get mine. The show was sold out before I could even choose his show. Real story. Sigh. That’s life.
That’s life
(That’s life)
That’s what all the people say
You’re riding high in April, shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune
When I’m back on top, back on top in June I said that’s life
(That’s life)
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stomping on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down
Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin’ around I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet
A pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself
Flat on my face
I pick myself up and get
Back in the race That’s life
(That’s life)
I tell you, I can’t deny it
I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart just ain’t gonna buy it
And if I didn’t think it was worth one single try
I’d jump right on a big bird and then I’d fly I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet
A pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin’
Flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get
Back in the race That’s life
(That’s life)
That’s life and I can’t deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out but my heart won’t buy it
But if there’s nothing shaking come this here July
I’m gonna roll myself up
In a big ball and die
My, my
